Description
Mahlon Loomis (1826-1886), US wireless inventor. Loomis was one of several inventors who patented early wireless telegraphy technology. Loomis carried out his experiments using kites in the 1860s, and was granted a patent in 1872. In 1869, he had applied for government funding, and addressed Congress to plead his case. Though the Loomis Aerial Telegraph Bill passed, he only achieved incorporation and failed to get any funding. This photograph is a 20th-century copy of a 19th-century original from the Addis Gallery, a photographic studio that operated in Washington DC in the period from 1869.
